What We Do To Help
Comfort Cases
Comfort Cases is one of the benevolent events that the Active 20-30 Club #1 has been running for almost ten years now. We organize and pack hundreds of backpacks for children in the local foster care program. Those backpacks include necessities, such as a toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo, a bar of soap, blanket, underwear, a stuffed animal, and a book.
Special Kids Picnic
Special Kids Picnic is one of our flagship benevolent events that the Active 20-30 Club #1 hosts to serve special needs children and their families in Sacramento. The picnic is held at Fairytale town in Land Park and is only available for children with special needs ranging from developmental disabilities to physical disabilities. The children and their families will be able to participate in face painting, a magic show, and various games. We also cook food and provide drinks as well.
Back to School Shopping Spree
Back to School Shopping Spree is a philanthropic event the Active 20-30 Club #1 has been running for over forty years. We host the event every year in September and partner with Kohl’s to take children aging from six years old to fourteen years old shopping for new clothes and shoes. Through proceeds raised from our fundraisers, we are able to purchase these necessities for the children while also teaching them lessons regarding shopping within a budget. After the children purchase their clothes, they are able to play in a bounce house, get a haircut, sit in a firetruck, and enjoy breakfast.
Mike Smyth Memorial Holiday Party
The Mike Smyth Memorial Holiday party is our quintessential benevolent event most active; legacy members are most proud of. The Mike Smyth Memorial Holiday party is named after past member, Mike Smyth, who passed away from cancer. He generously donated funds to ensure a Christmas holiday party was sustainable for children battling cancer at UC Davis Children’s Hospital. We host a giant Christmas party where we have Santa, a mad scientist, face painting, a bounce house, Star Wars characters, and interactive video games. Food & drinks are also provided for the children and their families. Through our fundraisers throughout the year, we purchase and gift toys to over three hundred children.
Suit Up & Deal
Suit Up & Deal is a relatively recent fundraiser the Active 20-30 Club #1 has been running since 2021. Suit Up & Deal is a high-end poker tournament in which professional dealers administer the tournament. Your ticket includes entry into the tournament, dinner, drinks, entry into the raffle, and a gift bag. Normal raffle prizes include a 2-night stay and play at Pebble Beach & Spanish Bay golf courses, Sacramento Kings tickets, Country in the Park concert tickets, watches, wine, Cuban cigars, and much more! The winner of the poker tournament wins a custom suit courtesy of R. Douglas in downtown Sacramento. We have had the privilege of hosting the event at Hyatt Downtown, Delta King on the river, and Del Paso Country Club.
Lobsterfeed
Lobsterfeed has been an event the Active 20-30 Club #1 has been running since the 1970’s. Originally, it was intended to be an ode to the “Past Actives” or otherwise known as legacy members for their commitment and service to the organization. However, more recently the event has turned into one of our main fundraisers to raise proceeds to purchase toys for the Mike Smyth Memorial Holiday Party. Your ticket includes your choice of steak, fresh lobster or surf & Turf as well as an open bar. Complimentary appetizers, bread, pasta, and clam chowder are also available with a ticket purchase. Raffle tickets are available for purchase during the event. Lastly, end the night listening to music and dancing courtesy of a DJ.
Cornhole Tournament
The Rich Cazeneaux Classic is our annual cornhole tournament held at McKinley Park or East Sacramento Portal park. Your ticket purchase includes double elimination entry into the tournament, food, beer, and music. The event is children friendly with a bounce house as well.
Golf Tournament
We run a 9-hole golf tournament semi-annually in the spring and fall. We have
hosted our golf tournament at Land Park, Mather, and Ancil Hoffman. Your ticket purchase includes nine holes of golf, a swag bag, and dinner. Raffle tickets are available for purchase too. Enjoy various challenges including longest drive, closest to the pin and a hole-in-one. Various sponsorship packages are available.
