Whether you’re looking to sharpen your skills\, expand your network\, or gain new perspectives\, this is a great opportunity to engage with like-minded professionals in our community. \nAbout the Speaker: \nIn one moment\, I was experiencing the pinnacle of athletic achievement\, competing for the collegiate rugby national championship. In the next moment\, my life took an unexpected and devastating turn. I suffered a severe spinal cord injury due to foul play\, leaving me unable to move or feel anything below my neck. My doctor’s prognosis was grim: I would never walk or move my hands for the rest of my life. \nEven in the face of tremendous adversity\, I maintained the drive to reclaim my life\, but my challenges had only just begun. My rehabilitation journey began with battling spinal fusion surgery\, pneumonia\, and an inability to swallow\, losing 60 pounds in only one month. I had to re-learn almost every basic human function\, from feeding myself\, to getting dressed\, to brushing my teeth.  \nRather than let this tragedy define me\, I used it as a catalyst for an extraordinary journey of redefining what is possible. Through an unbreakable vision and years of relentless determination\, I can now walk 400 yards\, I stood to receive my diploma from UC Berkeley’s top-ranked Haas School of Business\, and I’m sharing the mental tools that have helped me persevere through paralysis as an inspirational speaker.  \nAbout the Active 20-30 Club \nThe Active 20-30 Club is a service organization for men and women ages 20-39 from all professions\, dedicated to supporting children in the Greater Sacramento Area. We host General Fund events to raise money for our Benevolent Fund\, which provides grants to local nonprofits and funds break-even Benevolent Fund events that directly benefit children. \nWhat sets us apart is our hands-on involvement\, in addition to fundraising\, we organize special events where members actively engage with disadvantaged and disabled youth. This direct participation strengthens our connection with those we serve and creates a meaningful impact. 100% of funds raised go to charitable endeavors.

Sobriety and an unexpected community reconnected her with the game. \nAs a child\, Californian Lisa was anxious and felt she didn’t fit in. But after being introduced to soccer\, her confidence was transformed. Her ability took her to college and gave her the opportunity to play with the country’s best players and the national team. \n“I didn’t have a lot of confidence but once I was on the field I could do something skilful that others couldn’t.” \nOn track to play at the highest level\, Lisa’s dreams were cut short in 2003 when the women’s professional league announced it would be dissolving. Struggling with this news\, Lisa became addicted to drugs and gave up her soccer ambitions. \n“I lost my mind. I couldn’t figure out how I was so good at something\, and so bad at living.” \nLisa knew she had to change. She got clean in rehab and met a rag-tag team of soccer players\, all former addicts\, homeless or struggling with poverty. \nThis team re-ignited Lisa’s love of the game\, and she went on to represent the US at the 2011 Homeless World Cup in Brazil.
